Bronze Bean
I created a series of small scale sculptures for Culture Night at the National Sculpture Factory. These pieces were varied and very much an exploration of materials that I would not normally use. Bronze bean was a tiny plastic blue ball, sliced and split to fit into itself, then sprayed bronze. It was contained in perspex and cut sheets of cork which I spray painted stone effect.
I was interested in the idea of suspending this structure in space, balanced on cut sections of glass walls, or jutting out from heavy stone walls. In the end they remained within the imaginary gallery walls, situated, wedged and balanced on narrow openings, between rooms, and suspended in black backdrops.
